Superfoods are a group of supplements which deliver a high level of nutrition by virtue of their being in a natural form. They are often derived from plant sources.

Products such as spirulina sourced from an algae is rich in all the vitamins and minerals as well as antioxidants and amino acids. The amounts present may not be a high as other supplements but their better absorption and assimilation makes up for this.

Other common superfoods are chlorella (high in chlorphyll) and wheatgrass and barleygrass. These products are used for their detoxifying and cleansing properties. They help to alkalinize the body and reduce inflammaton. Chlorella has been shown to be able to bind heavy metals.
