Scutellaria (Skullcap)

Synonyms: Skullcap, Helmet Flower, Hoodwort, Quaker Bonnet.

Medicinal Uses: Scutellaria has been used traditionally for its sedative properties, for epilepsy, hysteria, and nervous tension. It has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for many centuries, and is said to kill bacteria and viruses, and to relieve allergies, respiratory problems and anxiety. It is often combined with Passiflora and Valerian to treat insomnia.

Cautions: Symptoms caused by overdosage of Scutellaria tincture include giddiness, stupor, confusion and seizures. Hepatotoxic reactions have also been reported.

You should not use Scutellaria if you have diarrhea.
