Honey is Nature's Healer
Recent studies have shown honey to be as effective as cough medicine and more effective than placebo in treating the symptoms of night-time coughs in children.
105 children (aged 2-18 years) with upper respiratory tract infections and nocturnal symptoms were randomly given either a single dose of buckwheat honey, cough medicine (dextromethorphan) or placebo half an hour before bed. Honey was ranked at least as good as cough medicine in it's effect on cough symptoms and sleep difficulty, while placebo had the worst effect.
